English

Objective: The aim of this study was to predict social skills based on coping styles with stress, beliefs, and self-differentiation, with the mediating role of hope, in single-child students in Isfahan city.
Method: This research is a fundamental study conducted using the experimental model of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The statistical population includes single-child students aged 18 to 22 in Isfahan city, estimated to be about 520 individuals. For the purpose of generalizing the results of the study, 250 single-child students were selected, and various valid questionnaires were utilized for data collection.
Findings: The results of the statistical data analysis indicated that, in the well-fitting model, the direct effect of beliefs on social skills was significant at the 0.01 level. The direct effect of avoidant coping style on social skills was not significant. The direct effect of emotion-focused coping style on social skills was significant at the 0.05 level. The direct effect of self-differentiation on hope was significant at the 0.01 level. The direct effect of problem-focused coping style on hope was significant at the 0.01 level. The direct effect of emotion-focused coping style on hope was significant at the 0.01 level. Also, the direct effect of hope on social skills was significant at the 0.01 level.
Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that all first-level variables of the model (i.e., self-differentiation, beliefs, and stress coping styles) have a significant indirect effect on social skills through the mediation of hope. In other words, hope plays an effective intermediary role in the relationship between these variables and social skills.
