English

The present study aimed to investigate the efficacy of cognitive rehabilitation therapy combined with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on improving visual and auditory working memory in adolescents with obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD). The research method was experimental, using a pretest–posttest and follow-up design with a control group and random assignment of participants. The statistical population included male and female adolescents (aged 14–18) with OCD in Ahvaz city during the 2021–2022 academic year. A total of 30 participants were selected and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (15 participants each). Participants were assessed using the Corsi Block-Tapping Test and the Wechsler Digit Span subtest. After the initial assessment, the experimental group underwent 12 sessions (45 minutes each) of cognitive rehabilitation, during which 20 minutes of simultaneous transcranial direct current stimulation was applied in each session. The control group did not receive any intervention. After completing the interventions, as well as three months later, participants were reassessed. Data were analyzed using multivariate and univariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA and ANCOVA). The results indicated that cognitive rehabilitation combined with transcranial direct current stimulation significantly improved visual and auditory working memory (p < 0.05). Thus, cognitive rehabilitation combined with tDCS can be considered a potential therapeutic approach for treating OCD.
