Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of mental imagery and the actual execution of the techniques (Osotogari, Ogosh and Tai Otoshi) on the self-confidence of female judokas.  This research was semi-experimental with pre-test-post-test design with a control group.  The Mancova method was used for analysis and Wiley and Knight's Sports Self-confidence Questionnaire was used as a research tool.  The statistical population of this study was made up of female judokas in Tabriz, who were engaged in judo in 2022-2023. A total of 45 judo players from the Ganjovian Club were selected by the available sampling method and randomly divided into 3 groups. The members of both experimental groups received their intervention in 8 half-hour sessions, but the control group did not receive any training.  The results of the research showed that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental groups (P<0.001), which means that both interventions are effective in increasing the self-confidence of female judokas players.  But the effect of none of the intervention methods is greater than the other (P<0.05).  Also, the effect coefficient obtained shows that 0.19 of the differences between the groups in  the self-confidence scores in the post-test is related to the effect of mental imagery and the actual implementation of the technique.  According to the results of this research, it seems that mental imagery and actual execution of the technique are effective in increasing the self-confidence of judokas
