In this study, the effect size index of the standardized difference of means and G-Hedges type were used to combine the effect size. The inclusion criteria were experimental studies that investigated the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy or the third wave in Iranian adults suffering from a chronic disease comorbid with depression and/or anxiety. Included studies were assessed for bias based on Cochrane I criteria. All analyzes usingststa-17 and related modules were done. Results:37 eligible studies were included in the meta-analysis that moderate to strong effect size g=-1.92 (Cl=-31 to -2.52) for depression as well as a moderate to strong effect size of g=-1.869 (Cl=-2.302 to -1.437) was obtained for anxiety. Conclusion: The findings show that cognitive behavioral therapy is an effective intervention in reducing anxiety and depression in people with chronic diseases. But the weakness of the study methodology is evident. There is a risk of randomization and a small sample population in most studies. Further studies should focus on conducting pilot studies with high methodological quality.
