Abstract

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is one of the emerging treatments of the third wave, which instead of changing thoughts, focuses on reducing the influence of thoughts on a person's behavior and performance, as well as increasing psychological flexibility. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of group therapy based on acceptance and commitment on psychological flexibility, rumination and academic procrastination in the second secondary female students with academic failure in Andimshek city. This research was conducted with a semi-experimental method and a pre-test and post-test design with a control group, with the statistical population of all students with academic failure in Andimeshk city. In this way, one district was randomly selected from among the educational districts of this city, and three schools were randomly selected from this district, and five classes were randomly selected from these schools, and 30 students were purposefully placed in two experimental and control groups. The research tools were psychological flexibility questionnaire, Nolen Hoeksma rumination questionnaire and academic procrastination questionnaire. The data obtained from this research were analyzed using repeated measurement method and Spss-22 statistical software. The findings showed that group therapy based on acceptance and commitment was effective in increasing psychological flexibility and reducing rumination and reducing academic procrastination in secondary school female students with academic failure. Based on the findings, group therapy based on acceptance and commitment can be an effective intervention program for students with academic failure.
