Abstract

Background & objectives: Gestational diabetes is one of the most common health problems in pregnancy, which requires participation through self-care to reduce maternal and newborn complications.This study aimed to Comparison of self-care behavior, marital stress and fear of childbirth in women with gestational diabetes and healthy pregnant women in Shiraz city

Methods: It is a descriptive design in a comparative causal way. The statistical population of the research was all women with gestational diabetes referred to women's and maternity hospitals in Shiraz, as well as healthy women in Shiraz in 2019. To conduct research, among pregnant women referred to Hafez Shiraz Hospital, 50 women with gestational diabetes as diagnosed by a specialist doctor (with FBS more than 120 or GCT more than 140) and 50 healthy pregnant women (with normal blood sugar) voluntarily and available were selected as samples. The measurement tools of the research included the European questionnaire of self-care behavior (Jarasma et al., 2003), fear of childbirth questionnaire (Namazi, 1372) and the Stockholm Orth Marital Stress Scale (Gomer et al., 2000). Subjects answered self-care behavior questionnaires, fear of childbirth and marital stress scale. The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance and independent t test using SPSS-23 software.

Results: The mean score of self-care behavior, marital stress and fear of childbirth in diabetic pregnant women were 26.87±5.78, 46.08±6.95 and 23.65±5.28 in healthy pregnant women, respectively, and in healthy pregnant women, 5.15±15. 05/32; 38.55±6.04 and; It was 17.44±4.53, which was statistically significant (p=0.001).
