Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the predictive role of stressful experiences caused by COVID-19 on sleep disorders and cognitive skills in people with COVID-19. The current research was descriptive. The statistical population of the research was formed by all the households of Shiraz City in 2022. Among the statistical population, 130 people were selected and studied as available. To collect data, the online questionnaire of Corona Disease Anxiety Scale (2019), (Alipour, Gadami, Abdulzadeh,) Petersburg Sleep Questionnaire – PSQI (1989), and the Rescue Cognitive Skills (Abilities) Questionnaire (2013) were used. The data was analyzed using SPSS-26 software. After collecting and extracting the data, the scores of the participants were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results of Pearson's correlation coefficient showed that there is a negative and significant relationship between cognitive skills and anxiety about the coronavirus, there is a negative and significant relationship between cognitive skills and sleep disturbance, and there is a positive and significant relationship between anxiety caused by COVID-19 and sleep disturbance. Also, results showed that stressful experiences caused by COVID-19 are significant predictors of cognitive skills and sleep disturbance. As a result, people suffering from stressful experiences caused by COVID-19 are more exposed to sleep disorders and reduced sleep quality as well as reduced cognitive skills.
