Abstract

Drug addiction is one of the major problems that most societies face and it costs a lot of money every year. Prevention of this problem requires the identification of risk factors and protection factors against substance dependence. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a positive psychology-based intervention program in promoting resilience in substance abusers. The present study, in the form of a quasi-experimental design with post-test and pre-test with a control group, investigated the effectiveness of an intervention program based on positive psychology in promoting resilience of substance dependents. The study population included all drug addicts referred to addiction treatment centers in Shahroud city, during which 60 participants, 40 of whom were in the experimental group and 20 in the control group, underwent positive psychology training by performing cluster sampling. Using Connor and Davidson (2003) resilience questionnaire, data on resilience were collected both pre-test and post-test and analyzed by independent t-test and covariance. Affects the resilience of substance abusers.
