Abstract

Early maladaptive schemas (EMSs) act as templates for information Processing which influence in emotional reactions of life situations and their styles of interpersonal relationships. Marital relations is not exception being affected by these schemes. The aim of this study is to determine the relation between early maladaptive schemas (EMASs) and marital satisfaction. In order to achieve the aims of this study, 179 married students was chosen by cluster sampling from University of Mashhad, Mashhad Azad University units (Faculty of Sciences, Humanities) and of non-profit institutions (the Institute of Hekmat Razavi) and the Faculty of Ferdowsi University (Faculty of Educational Sciences, Science, Theology, literature).The subjects completed 2 psychological tools: the Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ) and ENRICH Couple Scale (ECS). For analyze data have been used Correlation and enter regression analyses. The results show that a number of EMS domains were significantly associated with levels of marital satisfaction, Communication, Conflict Resolution except Idealistic Distortion, (P=0/05). Also the multiple regression analyses showed that Domain schemas of disconnection and rejection were the best predictor of marital satisfaction. Marital dissatisfaction can be predicted based on early maladaptive schemas; (r2=0/17، P=0/001) therefore it deserves intervention based on schema therapy as one of the interventions in the field of interpersonal conflict and marital problems as they are considered to be professionals.
