Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of group communication skill training on the mental health and assertiveness of adolescent girls supported by Imam Khomeini Help Committee in Mahshar city. The population in this study consisted of all girls who were supported by this committee in Mahshar. The sample consisted of 30 girls which were randomly selected and divided into two groups as experimental and control. The experimental group received 8 sessions of group communication skill training but the control group did not receive any intervention. The instruments were the General Health Questionnaire–28 (GHQ–28) and the Assertiveness Scale for Adolescents (ASA). The qualitative data analysis (Mean, Variance, etc.) and inferential statistics (Multivariable Covariance, etc.) were carried out by using the SPSS software. The result showed that group communication skill training enhanced the amount of mental health and assertiveness of single parent families’ adolescents supported by help committee. Using group communication skill training can improve this ability among girls to receive positive feedback in social environments and inhibit them from encountering with negative ones.
