Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study was to predict feelings of loneliness based on attachment styles in individuals with romantic break-up grief.
Material & Method: The current research is descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional In line with the research's purpose, 800 people were selected from the student population of University of Tabriz using a convenience sampling method. After completing the Love Trauma Symptom Inventory, 219 individuals whose scores for romantic break-up grief were one standard deviation higher than the average were selected as the primary sample for the research. The questionnaires used included the Revised Adult Attachment Scale and Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and Enter method of Multiple Regression.
Results:The results showed that secure, avoidant and ambivalent attachments styles could significantly predict feeling of loneliness styles in individual with romantic break-up grief., and in general, 32 percent of the changes in feelings of loneliness were explained by attachment styles.
Conclusion: With the identification of the role of attachment styles in predicting the feelings of loneliness, it can be said that interventions aimed at changing insecure attachment styles to secure ones can reduce feelings of loneliness and have a noticeable positive effect on improving the mental health of individuals with romantic break-up grief.
