Abstract

The present research, conducted in 2022, aimed to investigate the efficacy of a family-oriented intervention program based on the Islamic theory of spousal contribution in promoting marital satisfaction. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a single-group pretest-posttest structure. The sample group, comprising 3 individuals, was selected through purposive sampling from married women residing in district 5 of Tehran who had experienced marital conflicts and met the inclusion criteria. Participants underwent an 11-session, one-hour each, counseling intervention program focusing on family compatibility grounded in the contribution approach. The Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale was administered thrice: prior to the intervention (baseline), and during the fifth and eleventh sessions. Data analysis was conducted utilizing the stable change index and percentage of improvement. The results indicated that marital conflict resolution interventions based on the contribution approach, in line with the findings of a prior study (2021), were efficacious in enhancing marital satisfaction and its subdomains. Specifically, significant improvements were noted in the domains of personal issues, marital communication, and conflict resolution, while for the domains of marriage and children, and leisure activities, although statistically non-significant, clinical improvement percentages indicated efficacy. Overall, the findings suggest that the implementation of a counseling program for family compatibility based on the contribution approach, culturally tailored to Iranian-Islamic norms, could be employed by family professionals and counselors for couples grappling with marital discord arising from spousal family incompatibility and subsequent diminution in marital satisfaction
