Abstract

This study aimed to compare coronavirus anxiety and social isolation in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and normal individuals. The population of this study included all people with major depressive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder referred to medical centers in Ahvaz and normal people. From this statistical population, 30 people with major depressive disorder, 30 people with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and 30 normal people were selected as a sample by voluntary sampling. The Corona Disease Anxiety Scale (Aliapour et al., 2019) and the Revised University of California at Los Angles Loneliness Scale (Russell et al., 1980) were used to collect data. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the data. The results showed that coronavirus anxiety and social isolation were significantly higher in patients with the obsessive-compulsive disorder than in patients with major depressive disorder and normal individuals. According to the research results, it is suggested that the effect of variables such as anxiety and social isolation caused by the disease be considered and their role on mental health be considered. It is also necessary to consider appropriate interventions in critical situations for vulnerable people with mental disorders
